Mica Mine Hike

Today I took the time to check out the Mica Mine hike (located at the Bangs Canyon Trailhead). It was a 2.6 mile round trip hike.

It was a beautifully scenic trail. Short, but that’s ok because it was a hot one today!

Mother Nature…..You Rock!

So I’m running along the river today and 3 miles in I get to a set of stairs. It was a flat run up to that point so I decided to run up and down them an ungodly number of times.
I stopped to snap a pic (OK, it was more like a stop to catch a breath) and was amused by what Mother Nature rewarded me with ( a nice butterfly cloud at the top of the stairs).
Apparently it doesn’t take much to brighten my run :).

What Fuels Your Runs?

I am a 5’2″, 115 lb. vegan runner and I love to eat as much as the next person. On days that I run, I am fairly hungry, but on days that I run AND weight train, I am ravenous.

Today is a ravenous kind of day. My food intake today was:

Breakfast– Water, coffee, soy yogurt with blackberries and granola. More water. Then 1/2 hour before my run, a 1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich.
Then-Run, weight training. Strawberry Lemonade Nuun.
Recovery– Protein shake made with almond milk, Garden Of Life Raw Protein, 1/2 of a banana, 1T. peanut butter, and flax seed.

Lunch– Veggies and hummus. Water.
Snack– Toast and coconut oil. Water
Dinner– Pasta with Tomato Basil Marinara Sauce (Organicville). Water.

Snack-1/2 of an avocado with lime and sea salt.
Sadly, I am still hungry. Considering a small green smoothie.

Moab Trail Marathon

I just signed up for the Moab Trail Marathon in November.

I am super excited to try a trail marathon. I was getting kind of bored with running the streets of my city, so I started hitting the many trails in my area and have found that, although challenging, I really enjoy trail running.

I think my longest trail run so far is 9 miles or so, so I have a long way to go before I am comfortable dragging myself 26.2 miles through nature. From what I can gather from pics I have seen, this is a pretty technical course. It looks really fun though. I can’t wait!
